Sumatra

Sumatra is the second largest island of the Indonesian archipelago and the sixth largest island in the world. It is the most west island that played a greatly important part in Indonesian history. It is separated in the northeast from the Malay Peninsula (EuroAsia continent) by the Strait of Malacca and in the south from Java by the Sunda Strait.
Surrounded by the Indian ocean from three sides, north, west, and south. There is a chain of islands along the south coast of Sumatra such as Mentawai, Siberut, Nias, Simeulue.. Very North of Sumatra is the Aceh region which was affected by the tsunami in 2004.
Sumatra is home to one of the world's largest rainforests with the area of 2,5 milion hectares. Unfortunately, it has lost almost 50% of it in the past 35 years.
Sumatra island is home to many different tribes and nations with strong culture, architecture and heritage. It is a great place to visit and travel around.
